About This Toys ESL Unit

This beginner ESL unit introduces true beginners to useful toy vocabulary through simple speaking practice, picture-based learning, matching tasks, counting, and classroom games. In the first lesson, students begin learning core toy words such as doll, ball, and robot while practicing beginner question patterns like “What is this?”, “What toy do you have?”, “Do you like … ?”, and “How many are there?” These kinds of ESL vocabulary lessons give students structured, repeatable language they can use right away.

Because this is a true beginner ESL unit, the lessons stay highly visual and repetitive. Students answer short questions, describe toys, talk about likes and dislikes, and practice size words such as big and small. This makes the unit especially useful for teachers who want ready-made ESL lessons that support early speaking confidence and simple classroom interaction.

What Students Practice in Unit 4

Across the full unit, students continue developing the same toy theme with new vocabulary and familiar sentence patterns. Later lessons expand the topic with teddy bear, yo-yo, and rubber duck, then move into play language with rock, paper, scissors. The unit also introduces ride-on and play items such as bike, skateboard, scooter, video game, board game, and drum.

Students practice yes/no answers, possession language with I have and I don’t have, play-focused questions such as “What do they play?”, and simple comparison language like same and different. The lessons also include matching activities, memory games, order games, pattern practice, and speaking review. This gives learners many chances to recycle the same beginner English in a clear, engaging way, which works well for beginner ESL lessons and ESL lesson plans for kids.

Teaching Use

These lessons are designed as no-prep ESL lessons for classroom teaching, tutoring, and online ESL lessons. They work well for young learners and first-time English students who need strong visual support, repetition, and simple communicative routines. As part of the Level 1 ESL curriculum, this unit gives teachers practical ESL teaching resources for introducing toy vocabulary, play language, and simple conversation.
