About This Animals ESL Unit
This Level 1 Unit 2 lesson introduces true beginners to basic animal vocabulary through simple, highly supported ESL speaking activities. In this unit, students learn to identify common animals and answer easy classroom questions such as “What is it?”, “What color is it?”, and “How many are there?” The first lesson focuses on animals like dog, cat, and mouse while also recycling familiar beginner language such as names, feelings, colors, and simple introductions.
Because this is a true beginner ESL unit, the lessons use repetition, picture-based learning, short model sentences, and guided oral practice to help students build confidence.
